V. Gary Millwood Obituary
MILLWOOD, V. GARY, died on May 29, 2013 at Baptist Hospital East. Per his wishes, his body was bequeathed to University of Louisville School of Medicine.

He retired from Bellewood Presbyterian Home for Children as Director of Campus Life in 2000. After retirement, he enjoyed researching, growing, and sharing Kentucky Heirloom vegetables, especially tomatoes. He helped to organize the annual 'Mater Days at Thieneman's Herbs & Perennials. Many people around the world knew him as The Tomato Man and he was featured on WFPL's HomeGrown radio show as an expert on Heirloom Tomatoes. The Oldham County Historical Society used his expertise as an educational resource. Others knew him as Briarpatch the Clown, having volunteered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Kentucky Derby Festival parade.

Gary was preceded in death by his daughter, Sarah Carlene.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Katharine; brothers, Bob (LaVonne) and Wayne (Brenda); sister, Gail Bishop; sons, Philip and Kirk; and grandchildren.

The family plans to have a Memorial Gathering for family and friends at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, gifts of sympathy may be made to Bellewood Home for Children, 11103 Park Road, Louisville, KY 40223; or the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
