William Parker Hurley, Jr.

Louisville - 75, died at his home on May 9, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born on June 16, 1942 in Louisville, KY, the son of W. Parker Hurley and Louise S. Hurley. He grew up in Louisville and attended the Louisville Country Day School.

He graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA in 1964, and from the University of Louisville Law School in 1967.

He was an attorney for 40 years and a founder of the law firm Hurley and Wells, and a mediator for many years prior to his retirement.

His voluntary associations and activities included: member of the Pendennis Club, the Board of Directors of the Indiana Forest Alliance, the Sierra Club, the Southern Indiana Wheelmen, the Clark County (Indiana) Democratic Alliance, and the Four or Five Old Friends Book Club.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Heather Scarlett Hurley; two children: Louise Hurley Shepherd (Anthony) of Scott Air Force Base, IL, and William Parker Hurley, III (Elizabeth) of Louisville, KY; a sister, Huyett Hurley-Bugbee (John); four grandchildren: Paul Shepherd, Stephen Shepherd, Madeleine Hurley, and Hannah Hurley; and a niece, Sarah Whitsett and her two children, Hollingsworth and Whitsett Ruml. He cherished his family and enjoyed frequent family gatherings.

In addition to his professional activities and associations, he achieved a long-term goal of hiking to the highest elevation points in 49 states, frequent cycling expeditions, boating on the Ohio River and the Great Lakes, canoeing on many Indiana and Kentucky lakes and streams, deciphering myriad mathematical puzzles, pursuing wide reading interests, and engaging the theories of Richard Dawkins.

Visitation will be Sunday 1~4 pm at Pearson's Funeral Home, 149 Breckenridge Lane. A private graveside service will be held at the Hurley family plot at Cave Hill Cemetery.
