Obituary Condolences

ZIMMERMAN, THOM J., MD, PhD, 66, died Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at home with his wife Tinker at his side.

Thom was Emeritus Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and Emeritus Professor of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Louisville. He was best known for the development of drugs for treatment of glaucoma including Timolol. With his partner, Chris Paterson, he spearheaded the building of the addition to the Kentucky Lions Eye Center and the Rounsavall Eye Clinic.

Thom will be remembered by all who met him. He was known for his incredible sense of humor and thirst for knowledge. He was an inspiration to many residents, fellows, and friends. On scholarship for both football and tennis to the University of Illinois he remained a lifelong Illini supporter. His PhD was from the University of Florida, and he did his glaucoma fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis.

Thom is survived by his wife, Tinker; daughter, Jessica; granddaughter, Elsa and grandson, Maslin.

At Thom's request there will be no service now. A celebration of his life will take place this Fall.
