Jean (Chapin) Dolat, 90, died October 28, 2017 in Merced, CA. She was born August 16, 1927 to Harry & Aileen Chapin in Freeport, NY and grew up in Baldwin, NY.

Jean was married to Bernard W. Dolat for more than 68 years and raised 5 children.

In addition to being a mother, she was an accomplished athlete playing tennis and golf into her later years.

She was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the State University of New York-Cortland (formerly Cortland State Teachers College). She excelled in athletics at a time when women's sports were not supported by the schools they attended and it was through her own drive that she played sports throughout high school and college.

Even while having 5 children, Jean played for the Long Island Field Hockey Assn & the Hampshire Field Hockey Assn. Jean was a member of the U.S. Women's Field Hockey team for several years and the U.S. Women's Lacrosse team. For many years she officiated field hockey and basketball for schools on Long Island.

She taught physical education at Friends Academy in Locust Valley, NY and was the physical education director at Miss Porters School in Farmington, CT until her retirement.

Jean & Bernie lived in West Hartford, CT and raised their family there. They were members of the Hartford Tennis Club for many years. They retired to Pocasset, MA and then Bluffton, SC. She was always active in her community.

She is survived by her husband, Bernie, Pacifica Senior Living, Merced, CA and her children, Christy Dolat Bartlett (Peter), Concord NH, Jackie Dolat, (Joni), Kenai AK, Stephen Dolat(Laurie), Natick MA, Patty D Grossman (Randy), Merced CA, Peter Dolat (Sydney), Newbury MA and twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

There will be no formal service planned.
