of Chelmsford, MA

CHELMSFORD - Christine A. (Handley) Moran, of Chelmsford, Massachusetts passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 13th surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lowell to the late William H. Handley and Ann (McGuire) Handley and was the wife of the late W. Francis Moran, former Editor of the Lowell Sun. She is survived by her son Kevin F. Moran, daughter-in-law Caroline S. (Deschenes) Moran, and her grandchildren Sloane E.H. Moran, Brendan W.F. Moran, and Alison A.S. Moran.

She was a graduate of the Academy of Notre Dame and Lowell Commercial College. Prior to her retirement, she was a Tax Auditor for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and a Paralegal for Judge William Sullivan.

First and foremost, she was devoted to her family and was also an active member of St. Mary's Parish in Chelmsford, where she served for many years as Chair of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. For over 35 years, Christine was a Lector, Funeral Minister, and Eucharistic Minister, bringing the Eucharist to patients at Lowell General Hospital, Palm Manor Nursing Home, Chelmsford Crossing Assisted Living Facility, Summer Place Retirement Home, and many homebound parishioners.

In 2011, Cardinal Sean O'Malley awarded Christine the Bishop Cheverus Medal, named for the first Bishop of Boston and given to those recognized for their quiet service to the Church.

Christine was predeceased by three sisters, Mrs. Edward (Ann) Cassidy, Mrs. Edward (Mary) Dutile, and Mrs. J. Stanley (Grace) Upton, and by four brothers, Gerard Handley, William F. Handley, Thomas P. Handley, and Kevin F. Handley. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Circle Home Health for the outstanding care provided in her final days.

MORAN - Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, September 16th, from 3-6 pm at the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 17th, at 9 o'clock at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Road, CHELMSFORD. KINDLY MEET AT THE CHURCH.
