Peyton Randolph Harris Jr.

Peyton Randolph Harris, Jr., MD
was founder of OB/GYN practice at Chelmsford Medical Associates; 85

WESTWOOD -- Peyton Randolph Harris, Jr., MD, 85, of Westwood, died Thursday, March 31, 2016, after a brief illness.

Beloved husband of Susan (Carter) Harris for almost 59 years.

Loving father of Rosemary Thomsen and her husband, Stewart Thomsen of Newton, and Edith Adams and her husband, Stephen Matulis of Needham. Adoring grandfather of Sarah and John Thomsen, Katherine Adams, and Christina and Stephen Matulis.

Randy was a graduate of the Buckley School, St. Paul's School, Harvard College, and Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. After his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at The Women's Hospital in New York, he spent two years in France serving as an army physician. He then moved to Massachusetts, where he joined one of the early multispecialty groups, Chelmsford Medical Associates, where he founded their OB/GYN practice. He practiced in Chelmsford and at Lowell General Hospital for nearly thirty years. He was a dedicated physician who cared deeply about his patients.

Despite having grown up in Manhattan, Randy discovered a love of the outdoors after moving to Andover, Massachusetts, and spent many happy hours gardening, hiking, and skiing throughout the years. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with Susan and spending time with his children and grandchildren at his home in Stowe, Vermont. He derived deep satisfaction from participating in his grandchildren's lives and attending their sporting and other events, even as his health declined.

Randy and Susan moved to Fox Hill Village in Westwood in 2005, where they enjoyed eleven years together.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in his memory to Horizons at DCD, 90 Sandy Valley Road, Dedham, MA 02026. A private service and burial have been held. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
