Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather

LOWELL - Richard J. "Dick" Evans, 76, the beloved husband of Dorothy (McGrath) Evans, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday evening, January 8, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born in Lowell on April 22, 1942, a son of the late William F Evans and Ruth (Nison) Evans. He was educated in the Lowell Schools. For many years, Dick was employed as a Long Distance Truck Driver. He started with Ace Express and later drove for J. McCabe & Son, and most recently with Melba Express, Inc. Dick enjoyed his work driving coast to coast and traveling across the country. Dick was a hard worker and good provider for his family. Dick was a storyteller and always enjoyed entertaining people. He was a fan of the Red Sox, the Patriots, and Professional Wrestling. Most of all, Dick loved his family and was a loving Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchild.

Surviving Dick in addition to his wife Dorothy are his three children, Debra Davidson, Linda Gilbreth and her husband Brad, and Richard J. Evans, Jr. and his wife Ana Cristina Santos Evans; his five grandchildren, Joseph Dorris, Jr., Amy Gilbreth, Derek Gilbreth, Nicholas Evans, and Hunter Evans; one great-grandson, Braeden Dorris; a sister, Carol Leonard and her husband John; his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph and Rosemary McGrath, Jane and Arthur Ayres, and James Normandin; also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Dick was the brother of the late William Evans and brother-in-law of the late Catherine Normandin and Mary McGrath.

EVANS - In Lowell, January 8, 2019 at his home, Richard J. "Dick" Evans, 76, the beloved husband of Dorothy Evans.

Family and friends may call at the FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL on SUNDAY from 4 until 7 PM. His Funeral will begin on MONDAY MORNING at 9 o'clock from the Funeral Home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 o'clock at ST. MARGARET'S CHURCH, 374 Stevens St. Lowell. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Richard's memory may be made to the Lowell General Hospital Cancer Center, c/o Philanthropy, 295 Varnum Avenue, Lowell, MA 01854.
