Beloved Husband, Father,

and Grandfather

LOWELL - Richard P. Viau, a well-known member of the Lowell Community, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2019 at D'Youville, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Virginia (Prado) Viau for 61 years, until her passing on September 23, 2018.

Richard was born in Dracut on October 21, 1933, a son of the late Orlando and Alice (Roussel) Viau. He was educated at St. Louis de France Grammar School, Lowell High School, and Northeastern University.

Mr. Viau was a Veteran of the United States Army.

Dick was the owner/operator of the family plumbing business, O.P. Viau Plumbing. He ran the company until his retirement at age 80.

Dick served on numerous boards throughout the city including the Lowell Day Nursery, The Franco American School, the D'Youville Foundation, the D'Youville Men's Guild, as well as the Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union, having been the longest serving Chairman of the Board. He was also the Director of Operations at the Golden Gloves for over 30 years. Dick was a longtime member of Vesper Country Club.

An avid Antique Car enthusiast, Dick organized many outings with his family and his 1937 Buick Sedan.

In his younger years, Dick enjoyed skiing and skating. He always loved swimming and boating on Cobbetts Pond. Dick was also an amateur photographer. Mr. Viau enjoyed hosting neighborhood cookouts and organized many family reunions.

However, his greatest joy was being with his family and spending time together.

Mr. Viau is survived by his two daughters, Lisa M. Marquis and her husband Albert G. Marquis, and Christina L. Page and her husband Mark V. Page; his grandchildren, Sarah M. Marquis, Katherine A. Page, James E. Marquis, and Andrew R. Page; his brother, Dr. David Viau and his wife Pauline, his sister-in-law, Barbara Tomlin; and many nieces and nephews. Richard was also the brother of and the late George and Therese Viau.

VIAU - In Lowell, January 8, 2019 at D'Youville, Richard P. Viau, 85, the beloved husband of 61 years of Virginia M. (Prado) Viau. Family and friends may call at the FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL on MONDAY from 4 until 8 PM Mr. Viau's Funeral will begin on TUESDAY MORNING at 9 o'clock from the Funeral Home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 o'clock at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, 144 E. Merrimack St., Lowell. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Chelmsford. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Richard's memory may be made to The D'Youville Manor Men's Guild or to The D'Youville Foundation, 981 Varnum Avenue, Lowell, MA 01854.
