Sophie "Cookie" (Mahaleris) Leimonitis age 71,

a resident of both Lowell and Clearwater, Florida passed away peacefully on September 11, 2018 with her loving family by her side.

She was the loving wife of Antonios "Tony" Leimonitis with whom she shared her life with for over 43 years.

Sophie was born in Lowell, MA on April 9, 1947, a daughter of the late Louis and Penelope (Papafagos) Mahaleris. She was raised in Dracut, MA, attended Dracut Schools serving as class President and was a graduate of Dracut Senior High School Class of 1965. She later attended Chandler Business School for Women in Boston.

Sophie had a long and successful career as a Vice President in the Banking Industry.

She had been a member of the Lowell Rotary Club having served as a past officer. She was also a past board member of the Salvation Army and the YMCA of Lowell. She had also been very active over the years in the Greater Lowell Community. Sophie was also an avid traveler who enjoyed having her family as companions.

In addition to her husband Tony, her survivors include: Her daughter Paula Leimonitis-Silva and her former son-in-law Scott Silva. Her son George Leimonitis and his wife Nikki. Her brother George Mahaleris. Her 3 grandchildren: Tony, Sophia, Alex Silva and Costas Leimonitis. Also her nieces and nephews Diane Bennett, Michael Mahaleris, Penny Dowd and Charles Mahaleris. A very special sister-in-law: Blanche Mahaleris and her longtime friend Francine Parkhurst. She was the sister of the late Charles Mahaleris. She also leaves her dog Bookie.

LEIMONITIS - Family and friends will be received on Friday, Sept. 14, 2018 from 4 to 8 PM at the ARCHAMBAULT FUNERAL HOME, 309 Pawtucket St., Lowell, MA. Sophie's Funeral Services will be on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 62 Lewis St., Lowell. Interment will follow at the Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell.
