Well known Community volunteer

Suellen A. O'Neill, 72, of Lowell, a member of a widely known Lowell family, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening at D'Youville Advanced Care Center in Lowell.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, August 30, 1946, a daughter of the late Charles T. (Ted) and the late Veronica (Leahy) O'Neill, she attended St. Patrick Grammar School and was a graduate of Lowell High School in 1965.

Suellen received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Lesley University. In addition she attained Associate's Degrees from both Johnson & Wales University and Bay State College.

Ms. O'Neill worked for the Merrimack Valley Food Bank as the director of the Mobile Pantry and Summer Feeding Programs before her retirement.

Active in fundraising for several organizations, she supported all Food Bank Programs, the Merrimack Repertory Theatre, Lowell General Cancer Center and St. Patrick's Irish Cultural Committee.

Suellen also served on the Boards for the Lowell Council on Aging, Lowell Hunger Homeless Commission, and was appointed to the Advisory Board of the Lowell Department of Transitional Assistance.

Ms. O'Neill is survived by three brothers, Charles T. (Ted) O'Neill and his wife, Mary Ellen Neylon, of Naples, FL; Robert K. O'Neill and his wife, Helen, of Gilbert AZ, and J. Patrick O'Neill and his wife, Sharon, of Belmont; three sisters, Michaelene O'Neill McCann, of York Beach, ME; Elena H. Lovett and her husband, Thomas, of Marion, and Maura O'Neill Walsh, and her husband, Richard, of So Yarmouth. She is also survived by 18 loving nieces and nephews and 20 grand nieces and nephews. She was the sister-in-law of the late Eugene Patrick McCann.

At her request, there will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Funeral Mass to be celebrated Monday morning January 14, 2018 at ST. PATRICK CHURCH in LOWELL at 11 o'clock followed by burial of her ashes at St. Patrick Cemetery. E-condolences/directions at www.odonnellfuneralhome.com.
