Joseph Francis Ligas

Joseph Francis Ligas Lansing Passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013 at age 96. Born March 18, 1916 to John and Catherine (Novorolnik) Ligas in Portage, PA. He graduated from Portage High School class of 1934. Married his wife Kathryn in 1941, served in the Navy during WWII and moved with his family to Flint in 1955. Joseph was employed by General Motors until his retirement in 1980. While living in Flint he was a parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic Church and a member of its St. Joseph's Guild. In 2002 he and Kathryn moved to Lansing and joined Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Joseph was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast, and enjoyed playing golf as a younger man. He is preceded in death by: his parents, his wife of 68 years, Kathryn Ligas, infant daughter Joanne Ligas, sisters: Maria, Violet, Agnes, Caroline and son-in-law, Phillip Stasiak. Surviving are his children: Susan Stasiak, John (Deborah) Ligas, grandchildren: Christopher Jenkins, William Jenkins, Mathew Ligas, Erik Ligas and a sister, JoAnne Gavulic as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish of Lansing. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. in church prior to Mass.
