Carrie Lynn Koonter
Laingsburg - Carrie Lynn Koonter was born 12/24/1959 and died 09/19/2018 after a long battle with MS. She finished the fight on her own terms. Her parents were Donald and Elizabeth (Forrest) Koonter. She was a lifelong resident of Laingsburg and was proud of that. She attended Laingsburg schools and graduated in 1978. She was on the State Championship Softball Team where she was a formidable hitter. She continued to play softball after high school on recreational leagues, where she won another state title. She made many lifelong friends on the ball fields.
She worked for over 25 years for Meijer, all of those years at the Lake Lansing store. It was said you knew if Carrie was working because her laugh could be heard throughout the store. Until her health stopped her, she was a devoted member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 248. She worked countless breakfasts, benefits and could always be counted on to help. She was a founding member of the Laingsburg Dart and Women's Golf Leagues. She played on both for many years.
Carrie and her wife Mary were together for over 30 years and were very happy to finally be able to be married in 2015. They loved NASCAR, especially Mark Martin and enjoyed traveling to races and all over the US. They attended too many Rod Stewart concerts to count. Carrie loved spending time with her family and friends. There was never a lack of laughter or love when she was around. She was so proud of her nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister; Annette Koonter, great nephew; Michael Balcarcel and many dear aunts and uncles. She is survived by her wife and best friend; Mary McDougal, brothers; Daniel (Anzhelika), Kenny (Leona) and Gary (Barb) Koonter, nieces and nephews; Troy, Karen, Tina Ray, Amy, Teresa, Mark and Kim, many great nieces and nephews, her special Aunt Katie, many loved cousins and those that honored her by calling her Aunt Carrie.
When you remember Carrie, please remember her smile, her laugh and her love of life.
