Lansing - Catherine A. Spitzley, of Lansing, passed away surrounded by her family, on Saturday, February 10, 2019, at the age of 89. Born in Pewamo, Michigan on June 20, 1929, Catherine was the daughter of Myron and Estella (Miller) Schafer. For 55 years, she was the beloved wife of the late Matt Spitzley. Together they enjoyed their cottage and traveling. They loved dancing, playing cards, and being with family and friends. Catherine enjoyed baking, reading, Tiger baseball, and MSU basketball. She loved annual trips taken with her sisters and cousins. Catherine was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister and friend. She is survived by her children; Ellen (Mike) Glynn, Jean (Marvin) Beland, Nita (Chuck) Newell, Mary (Ward) Jungers, Amy Weeks, Edith (Jim) Ross, John (Gale) Spitzley, Patty (Steve) Marsh, Lynne (Mark) Doherr, and Joe Spitzley; 24 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis (Roy) Simon, Marilyn Schmitz, and Eva Jean (Tom) House; in-laws, Katy and David Courter, Marjorie and Joe Halfman, and Marilyn Mulcahy; and many nieces and nephews. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Terese, and brother Paul; in-laws, Herman and Caroline Spitzley; brother-in-laws Bruce and Eugene Spitzley, Leo Mulcahy, Don Schmitz; and son-in law Don Weeks. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 14, 2019, at St. Gerard Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Fr. John Klein as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Delta Chapel, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the mass. Contributions can be made to St. Vincent Children's Home or the St. Gerard Youth Ministry Fund in memory of Catherine. Condolences can be made at
