Eaton Rapids - Edward Barxdale McRee peacefully entered life eternal on April 25, 2018 at age 86 in Eaton Rapids, where he was a resident for the last 61 years. Edward was born October 20, 1931 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma and he is preceded in death by his parents Henry Barxdale and Mary Elizabeth McRee of Pauls Valley, his brother George Chesley McRee of Tulsa, Oklahoma and his son Kent Edward McRee also of Eaton Rapids. "Ed" was the Administrator of the Eaton Rapids Community Hospital from April 1957 until 1961 when he accepted the position of Administrator and later President of Ingham Medical Center in Lansing, a position he held until his retirement in 1995. Ed was a life member, past trustee and executive committee member of the Michigan Health and Hospital Association (MHA) and a well-known figure in the Eaton and Ingham county areas having served on the Eaton Rapids School Board, Lay Leader of the First United Methodist Church of Eaton Rapids for over forty years, he was the emcee for the Eaton Rapids Women's Chorus for 25 years, President of the Lansing Symphony, a Rotarian (serving as president in 1998) for over fifty years, past trustee of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan, a Hospital consultant, and a recipient of numerous awards and achievements during his professional career in Michigan. Ed was an accomplished pianist, drummer, and musician with an infectious love of the arts. A devoted Husband, Son, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather who will be sorely missed. Ed is survived by his wife, Jan, of 64 years; eldest son, Scott McRee of East Lansing, Son, Chad (Julie) of Las Vegas, Nevada; two Grandchildren, Micaela McRee Massacci of Mansfield, Texas, Meaghan McRee Talley (Jacob) of Greensboro, NC; and two Great Grand Children, Ava Massacci of Mansfield and AJ Massacci also of Mansfield, Texas. There will be a visitation with the family held at the Mills Funeral Home on Friday June 15, 2018 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM followed by a memorial service for Edward at 11:00 AM on Saturday June 16, 2018 at the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist Church. The family of Edward B. McRee would like to extend our deep appreciation and support to the medical staff at McLaren Health Management Hospice Program, the care and management staff at Ingham County Medical Care Facility and Island City Assisted Living Facility. Thanks to the staff of the pharmacy at McLaren Ingham Regional Medical Center, and the Eaton Rapids Medical Center. Lastly, many thanks to all who have provided cards, flowers, telephone calls, prayers and visits during these difficult times, and most importantly for their love and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eaton Rapids Methodist Church and Rotary of Lansing, Michigan and the Eaton Rapids Medical Center.
