James B. Henry Ph.D

Petoskey - James B Henry, of Petoskey, Michigan, formerly of East Lansing, Michigan and recent resident of Bonita Springs, Florida; passed peacefully on December 28, 2017 at Naples Community Healthcare System surrounded by wife of 44 years Elizabeth and son Jimmy. Jim was born in Edmonton, Canada. Jim spent much of his youth growing up in Michigan later settling in Sandusky, Ohio. After high school Jim served in the United States Air Force, then attended Ohio University earning a B.B.A. in Finance, Accounting, and a M.B.A. He then attended Syracuse University earning a M.S. in Accounting and a Ph.D. in Finance, Accounting, and Economics. Jim was a Professor of Finance at State University of New York at Binghamton, Associate and Full Professor at University of South Carolina and Dean of the College of Business at Louisiana State University.

Jim served at Michigan State University as Dean of the Eli Broad College of Business and Eli Broad Graduate School of Management. During his service to the Broad School, he oversaw the groundbreaking of the college's James B. Henry Center for Executive Development, The Lear Corporation Career Center and the William C. Gast Business Library. He retired as Michigan State University Dean Emeritus and Full Professor. Jim served on the Jackson National Asset Management Board, along with numerous other community boards during his time in Louisiana and Michigan. In his leisure time, Jim enjoyed time with his wife and son, boating in Northern Michigan, winters in Florida, traveling and had an affinity for cars. He also enjoyed Louisiana State University Baseball, Michigan State University Football and Basketball. Jim is survived by his wife Elizabeth B. Henry and son James M. Henry II. In lieu of flowers those wishing to honor Jim's memory are asked to consider memorial donations to be made to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org) or Michigan State University James B. Henry Center for Executive Development. A Memorial Service will be held at the James B. Henry Center, Michigan State University at 2pm Thursday May 31, 2018.
