Obituary Condolences

Dr. Margaret Everett Kimball Dr. Margaret Agnes Everett Kimball went to be with the Lord on June 19, 2011. She was born November 18, 1924 in Newark, N.J. to Harmon and Helen Everett. Her family eventually settled in the DeWitt, Michigan area. She graduated from Old Central High School in Lansing, Michigan and attended Michigan State University graduating in 1949 with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation she worked for the State of Michigan traveling throughout the state, testing cattle for TB. In 1951 she opened her own vet clinic doing mixed animal practice on Turner Road in DeWitt. Margaret married the love of her life, Ray Roberson Kimball, in June 1953 residing at Ray's family farm in DeWitt. Two years later they purchased their own farm½mile down the road. At this new farmstead she was able to continue her passion for raising horses, especially Arabians. It is here they farmed and began their family. Margaret continued her practice of veterinary medicine until Ray's death in 1968. In 1969 the family moved to Rhode Island where she was an Associate Professor in the Animal Science Department at the University of Rhode Island as well as Extension Veterinarian. She was also very active in the 4-H Association. In 1974, she returned to the family farm in DeWitt and resumed her veterinary practice. In 1976, she went to work for the State of Michigan, Department of Agriculture inspecting meat processing plants. In 1987 she transferred to the USDA until retiring in 1990 doing the same. She achieved a lifetime goal of visiting all 50 U.S. states prior to her 80th birthday. She also visited several foreign countries including China with her college roommate Dr. Edith Hsuing. Margaret was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray Roberson; both parents; brother, Harmon (Pete) Everett; son, Howard; and her college roommate, Dr. Hsuing. Margaret is survived by her children, Susan (Ronnie) Williams of Minnesota, Ray (Wanda) Kimball of DeWitt, Helen (Howard) Bentley of Rhode Island and Dr. Edie Kimball of DeWitt; grandchildren, Joshua, Leah and Jeremy Williams, Triston and Richard Kimball, Matthew Pierce, Kimberley (Jake) Anderson, Andi, Dan, Elaina and Nick Earl of DeWitt: great-grandchildren, McKenna and Landree Anderson; and brother, Dr. S. Fred Everett of Minnesota. A memorial service will be held for Dr. Kimball at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 23, at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, DeWitt Chapel, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Michigan Animal Health Foundation, 2144 Commons Parkway, Okemos, MI 48864, Clinton County 4-H Extension, County Courthouse, 100 East State Street, St. Johns, MI 48879, Grace Hospice, 2205 Jolly Rd.
