Florence Evelyn Hartman Obituary
Florence Evelyn Hartman DeWitt Township Age 91, died very peacefully Monday, December 10, 2012. Florence was born February 28, 1921 in Chapin, Michigan to Ernie and Loui (Sandford) Fritz. She was very musical and played the accordion in the family band. They were known as "Ma Fritz and her Young'uns." They traveled to different states entertaining. She married Alva Hartman on December 23, 1941, he joined the family playing his guitar. After her brothers and sister married and went their own ways, she continued to sing and play her accordion for others to enjoy. She was an active member of the Gunnisonville United Methodist Church choir for 50 plus years-retiring just this year. She worked at Michigan Millers Mutual Insurance Company for 10 years and was a teacher's aide at DeWitt High School for 16 years. She was a proud 43 year cancer survivor. Florence loved watching Lawrence Welk on Saturday night and loved southern gospel music. She liked Bill Gaither's music and on Sunday afternoon's would watch their "Homecoming" Program. She, of course, knew all the words and sang right along with them. When she moved to Abbott Parkside Senior Apts., she enjoyed all the people that lived there and was so proud of the fact that she learned to play cards at the age of 88. You could find her downstairs talking up a storm with some of the ladies, or getting to an event an hour early because she didn't want to miss anything! Florence is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Alva (2008); daughter, Patricia Parkinson Doll (2010); sister, Ethel Fritz Babula; brothers, Rev.
