Suzanne Bonjour Obituary
Suzanne Bonjour "Enjoy what you enjoy" might be the meaning of life. For Suzanne Bonjour it was the way she lived. On Saturday June 8th, 2013 Suzanne passed away survived by her two sons, Chris and Scott. She spent most of her adult life in Laingsburg, MI but was born in Zeeland, MI on June 19th, 1952. Her father was a pigeon racing legend and her mother was first generation Dutch American. She is also survived by her brother John. Suzanne was top of her class both academically and athletically in high school, where she also dabbled in drag racing. She played one year of women's basketball for Ferris State University as a pesky point guard before committing fully to pursuing her passion for pharmacy. She spent her college summers working at a drug store on Mackinaw Island. The experience she enjoyed, the island not so much. Since the mid-1980's she worked as a pharmacist for Michigan State University before retiring in 2011. To those that knew her she was the girlfriend of Richard Gere, unknown to only him. Her sons retire undefeated in the traditional thanksgiving euchre game never having done the turkey day dishes. Suzanne loved chocolate but there wasn't a sweet she didn't like. Recently her biggest joy was her grandson Chaitan. Suzanne was a green thumb. Her gardens took up most of her summers including being a part-time job for many local kids. When she wasn't playing in the dirt, she was chipping out of the sand. A multiple time tournament champion for the Lansing Country Club and a myriad of other opens, scrambles, and leagues locally. She hit from the men's tees and razzed those that couldn't drive passed the women's. When the snow came she turned to quilting. She eventually converted her oldest son's room into a mini-fabric store. Suzanne was a regular at the local library when the leaves turned colors, but didn't miss a chance to lose herself in a good book. She was a loyal Purdue Boilermaker basketball fan never missing a game. It was her wish that any memorial donations go to Sparrow Hospice Service. There will be no funeral service. Suzanne has donated her body to science in hopes of ending cancer, the disease that extinguished her light too soon. In celebration of her life there will be a memorial service today, Tuesday June 11th, at Timber Ridge Golf Course in East Lansing that starts at 10 AM. Suzanne will be remembered by her family, friends, and the many other lives she touched during her sixty trips around the sun.
