Michael McGuire Obituary
Michael David McGuire passed away unexpectedly in Pickford, Michigan, on January 13, 2016, at age 52. He was born on January 10, 1964, to James D. and Mary J. (Case) McGuire, in Orange, California.
Mike served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a sergeant in 1st Force Reconnaissance Company and was a veteran of the Gulf War. He continued his service as a medical first responder and member of the Olivet Volunteer Fire Department. Graduating from the 118th Trooper Recruit School of the Michigan State Police, Mike earned the Top Gun award for marksmanship and was later a firearms instructor for the department. He served on multiple units within the MSP, including the governor's protection detail, and most recently as detective sergeant on an undercover narcotics team.
Mike will be remembered for his ability to make people laugh and his talent for telling stories. He was tremendously proud of his children and family, including his Marine Corps and Michigan State Police families.
Mike is survived by his wife, Linda McGuire; his daughter, Lauren McGuire of New Hampshire; three sons, Jacob Gay (Dorothy Devin) of Chicago, Zane Gay and grandson Cristiano Contero of Dearborn, and Dylan (Kaitlin) McGuire of Kansas; his mother, Mary McGuire; his sister, Krista McGuire of Kalamazoo; and two brothers, Robert (Liane) McGuire of Charlotte and Casey McGuire of Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by his father, James D. McGuire.
Visitation is Sunday, January 18, 2016, 4-7 p.m., and Monday, January 19, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., at Olivet Congregational Church, 125 College Street, Olivet, Michigan. Funeral services will be held at the Cutler Events Center at Olivet College, in Olivet, Michigan, at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2016.
Interment will occur at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek, Michigan. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Olivet High School Class of 1982 Scholarship Fund at Marshall Community Foundation, 614 Homer Rd. Marshall, MI 49068. Memorials may also be sent to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund at www.semperfifund.org
