Dianne Overweg Obituary

Dianne Munro Overweg

Portland - A wonderful life has come to an end with the passing of Dianne Munro Overweg. She was the wife of Mannes George Overweg (Monte) and the love of his life. Dianne was preceded in death by her parents Harry Russell and Margaret Jean Pikaart Munro, and firstborn son Mannes Todd Overweg.

While the family and friends mourn the loss, there is considerable celebration with the joy, peace, and love she brought to each of them. The tears of sadness are intermittently replaced with remembrance and stories that have filled the lives of each of them.

Those that are most familiar with Dianne recognize her passion for her chosen career as a Registered Nurse. Her talent and skills were exhibited with care, concern, compassion, and service to those around her. Those attributes were demonstrated and emerged with her cross-stitch, decorating, and family gatherings along the shore of the St. Mary's River on Sugar Island. Dianne was also well-known within the Michigan State Football community where she excelled as a kicker, organizing tailgates, and her ability to coerce the defense for timely turnovers.

Children Todd (Tanya and Johnnie Newland), Kathleen Dianne Van Dam (James) and Matthew Munro Overweg (Heather) were the pride of her life well-lived. Her legacy of decency, integrity, acceptance and tolerance was forwarded to her grandchildren where she found pride, purpose, and promise.

Grandma O was the bulwark and the glue that united a family with love and affection. This gave each of her progeny the potential of excellence against a backdrop of challenges that would confront all of them. Academics, athletics, art, music, dance, theater, and exhibitions all give way to accomplishment and success.

Dianne cherished the grandchildren listed; Mannes Rawlings Overweg (Luke), Jana McKenzie Overweg, Ella Hope Overweg, Stone Munro Overweg, Graceyn Newland, Josie Newland, Jayson Russell Van Dam, Sarah Dianne Van Dam, Emily Marie Van Dam, Ryann Locke Overweg, Maddux Marie Overweg, Gibson Locke Overweg, Ripken Mannes Overweg, Jacob Cooper, Nicholas Cooper

Dianne's siblings include Lynne Munro Potgeter (Ron), Mary Munro Heyboer (Edwin), and Thomas Russell Munro (Brenda). She is also survived by a plethora of in-laws, nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A memorial will be planned for a later date and her life will be celebrated with Dianne's Tailgate at her Portland address. Family and friends will be informed of the time and circumstances associated with this event.

In lieu of any flowers or expressions of love and affection, contributions may be made to the Portland Foundation for Public Education for monies distributed to those Portland High School students entering the field of nursing. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.

I´m so sorry to learn of Dianne´s passing. We spent many hours together in the bleachers at wrestling meets both while her sons were wrestling in high school and in the years after. Such fond and fun memories. My deepest sympathy to all the family and friends.

My heart is sad at the passing of Dianne. She was beautiful on the outside and also had a beautiful heart and demeanor. May God bring your family comfort and peace in your memories of her life.
