Bernabe G. Mendoza LUBBOCK- Bernabe G. Mendoza was born on June 11, 1927 in Mission, Texas to Antonio and Guadalupe (Gutierrez) Mendoza. He peacefully passed into the waiting arms of Jesus on Nov. 25, 2013. He was surrounded by his family. He married the love of his life, the late Francisca Ramos Mendoza, in December of 1951 in Lubbock. They made Abernathy, Texas their home. He worked as a farmer in the Abernathy and Shallowater area for many years until his retirement. He faithfully served his country while enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1953. He experienced combat in the Korean Conflict. Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Abernathy with Fr. Jacob Puthuparambil officiating. Interment will follow at the Abernathy Cemetery. He leaves behind his eight daughters, Teresa Flores, Minerva Ramos, Francisca Mendoza, Lupe Mendoza, Josie Mendoza all of Lubbock, Lydia Garcia, Linda Luera, and Celeste Mendoza all of Abernathy; his son, Bernabe Mendoza, Jr. of Lubbock; 30 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Delores Villanueva. He was preceded in death by his wife, Francisca R. Mendoza, in March of 1976; and his brother, Julian Mendoza.
