Lubbock- Calvin J. Clements, age 99, died on January 17, 2021. Born in 1921 in Blaine County, OK, Calvin experienced some of the most extraordinary events of the 20th century. In his youth, he traveled with his family by covered wagon with mule team from Arrey, NM to homestead near Cortez, CO. During the Depression, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, working in Mesa Verde National Park. After the United States entered WWII, he and his twin brother enlisted in the Army, both fought in the Pacific. After the war, he trained in radio and television, became a licensed HAM radio operator until late in his life. He married to his late wife on Christmas Day in 1948. Calvin enjoyed a long career in geophysics until retirement, always referring to himself as a "Doodlebugger". He was active in church as an elder and Bible class teacher. He loved to attend Army reunions. Calvin also enjoyed genealogy, travelling, especially to visit family, and "chasing electrons". He was a true man of honor, deeply loved by family and friends. Visitation will be held Monday, January 25, 2021 from 5-7 pm at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel. Private graveside services will be posted on Resthaven Funeral Home & Memorial Park's Facebook page, beginning at 10 am, Tuesday, January 26, 2021.
