Spokane, Washington- Frederick (Fred) Norman Hagedorn, Jr., age 72, of Spokane, Washington, passed away on the day of his 51st wedding anniversary on August 5, 2018, of stroke and congestive heart failure complications. He was born in Los Angeles, California, on April 26, 1946, to Frederick Norman, Sr. and Betty Hagedorn. Fred graduated from Loyola High School and Loyola University in Los Angeles. Next, he attended University of New Mexico School of Medicine where he earned his M.D. He enlisted in the Public Health Service from 1976-1978. His career was in emergency medicine for 30 years, the bulk of which was in Lubbock, Texas as Emergency Center Medical Director at University Medical Center. He served as Chief of Staff at UMC from 1996-1997. He was an associate clinical professor in the department of surgery with the medical school at Texas Tech University. He was the Lubbock County EMS Medical Director for about 20 years. Additionally, he served on the Governor's EMS and Trauma Advisory Council from its inception in the year 2000 until he retired. He was a Fellow in the American College of Emergency Medicine. As well, he was a member of the following: Society of Academic Emergency Medicine, Texas Medical Association, and Lubbock County Medical Society. He earned multiple awards including UMC Resident Housestaff Physician Mentor of the Year, South Plains EMS Emergency Physician of the Year three times, and Best Attending Physician in the Department of Family Medicine TTUHSC. He loved teaching, gave many presentations, and contributed to a number of publications. He was loved and respected by colleagues, nurses, paramedics and firefighters. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of 51 years, and their 3 children: Kristy Hoff (Tom), Chad (Michele), and Travis (Aimee). He also leaves behind 2 granddaughters: Jenna Hoff and Rayley Hagedorn.
