Lubbock- 96, This beautiful, shining light and saintly mother began her life on February 16, 1921, born to the parentage of Bennie and Adlissa Posey-Cooper in Holland, Texas. She accepted Christ at the age of 18 as a member of the Baptist Church in Holland, Texas. She served as a local and district Sunshine Band President and choir member under the leadership of the late Bishop W.D. Haynes. Endowed with beauty of the body and spirit, she was lovingly referred to as "Mother James". She was a faithful member and served most recently as Mother Emeritus under the leadership of Superintendent, W. David Haynes until death. She was employed as a domestic worker for the families of Dr. John Chalk, and Dr. Richard Wetzel. She also was employed by Pi Beta Phi, Zeta Tau Alpha and Kappa Alpha Theta Sororities until she retired in 2003. She is preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, ; four sons ;six sisters; nine brothers. She leaves to cherish her memory seven daughters, Jo Marie Gilbert, Ernestine Banks (Dallas), Betty Phenix, Mary White, Shirley Davis (Rev. Wendell Davis), Gwen Evans, Kathy Jennings (Charles) and one son Johnny James (Vanessa). Fifty-one grandchildren, eighty-three great grandchildren, Forty-three great-great grandchildren, and three great-great-great grandchildren, a loving grand daughter Tenelia Evans whom she raised and in turn Tenelia cared for her and a host of relatives and friends. Celebration of Life Service will held Saturday, Jan 13. 2018 @ 11:00 am at Southcrest Baptist Church. She will be buried beside her loving husband in the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Griffin Mortuary.
