John McAnally Obituary

John Winston McAnally Services commemorating the life of John W. McAnally, age 89, of Lubbock and formerly of Littlefield will be conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Littlefield with Reverend Gary Boles, Pastor, officiating. Mr. McAnally went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the Autumn House in Idalou. He was born December 12, 1921 at Duffan, Texas to Albert and Jennie (Stanford) McAnally. He graduated from Hico High School. He was a Purple Heart Veteran of World War II, serving in the 145th Infantry Battalion, the 37 Infantry Division, L. Company in the Pacific Theatre under Gen. Douglas MacArthur. He graduated from Hardin College at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas in 1949. John married Virginia Martin November 23, 1952 in Brownfield, Texas. They moved to Littlefield in 1959, where he was the owner of McAnally Jewelry until he retired in 1996. He was an active member and served on the boards of the First United Methodist Church, Noon Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Troop 641 of the Boy Scouts of America and the Salvation Army. He was a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity at Texas Tech University, the Littlefield Arts and Heritage Committee, and was the Vice President of the Lamb County Veteran's Memorial Committee. John was a longstanding member of the Good-fellowship Sunday School class at First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia McAnally. John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia of Lubbock; two daughters, Debra Moore and husband Gary of Tahoka, Texas and Linda Farquharson and husband Doug of Tulsa, Okla.; one son, John Scott McAnally and wife Allison of Lubbock; four grandsons, Shane and Jace Moore, Tyler and Andrew Farquharson; three granddaughters, Jill Farquharson, Emily and Megan McAnally; two great-grandsons, Jordan and Blakely Moore; one brother, Dean McAnally of Aspermont, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. John spent his final days in Autumn House in Idalou, Texas where he was given extraordinary and loving care by the wonderful staff. The McAnally family will receive friends and family at Hammons Funeral Home Friday, June 3, 2011 from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Online condolences may be sent at Hammonsfuneralhome.com.
