Joe Lowery Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 11 to Jun. 12, 2016.
Funeral services for Joe Bruce Lowery, 60, of Pollok will be held Monday, June 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Lufkin First Assembly with Dr. John W. Greene and Reverend Buddy Flowers officiating. Interment will follow in the Treadwell Cemetery. Joe was born November 18, 1955 in Lufkin, Texas to Lester and Othal (Russell) Lowery. He passed from this life to be with his Lord and Savior, Wednesday, June 8, 2016. He was a graduate of Huntington High School and Stephen F. Austin State University. He received his MBA from Texas A&M University. Joe was employed by Texas State Bank and was on the Board of Directors. He also served as a Director for Angelina Savings Bank. He attended Clawson Assembly of God Church. Joe's passion was photography. He had a God given talent for seeing beauty all around him and being able to capture that beauty in images which were realistic and emotional. He was named by Texas Highways Magazine as one of their top 25 photographers of all time. His photographs are collected by many private and corporate collectors, and have been published in many Texas magazines. He had many covers for those publications. He was also selected for a cover, article and images in Cowboys and Indians, a national publication. His photos appear in calendars of different companies, Texas Highways, Sierra Club and Barnes and Nobles. He was proud that the Texas soldiers serving our country in the war in Bosnia chose one of his pictures, printed 4'X6', to hang in their mess hall because it reminded them of home. First Ladies, Lady Bird Johnson and Laura Bush sent notes of admiration for his Texas Wildflower pictures. He would always say, "I just took the picture, God put on the display". Joe was a peacemaker. He was also the epitome of 1st Corinthians 13:4-7: 'Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love bears all things, hopes all things and endures all things'. We were all the beneficiaries of that love and generosity. If he didn't love you, he just had not met you! Those left to honor him are his wife, Jackie Lowery of Pollok; son, Matthew Lowery of Lufkin; stepchildren and their spouses, Courtney and Bret Gould of Lufkin, Brad and Mandy Hamilton of Pollok. He was the beloved "Poppy" of Jayden Gould, Landree Hamilton, Finley Hamilton and Presley Gould. His is also survived by his mother, Othal Lowery of Huntington; brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Brenda Lowery of Lufkin; brother-in-law, Paul Clark of Lufkin; nieces, Leslie Clark and Taylor Lowery; nephews and their families, John Mark and Whitney Lowery and Elise, Clarke Lowery, Austin and Sara Clark, all of Lufkin; mother-in-law, Yonnie Dixon of Pollok; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Debbie Dixon of Pollok and Buddy and Vickie Flowers of Frisco; extended family and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Lowery; and sister, Donna Lowery Clark. Pallbearers will be Matthew Lowery, Tommy Lacey, Brad Hamilton, Bret Gould, Roger Self and Keith Carrell. Honorary pallbearers will be John Mark Lowery, Austin Clark, Clarke Lowery, Leslie Clark, Taylor Lowery; the officers, employees and members of the Board of Directors of Texas State Bank, Paul Clark and the Angelina Savings Bank Board of Directors. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 212 Gene Samford Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Lufkin First Assembly. Memories and condolences may be added at www.carrowayfuneralhome.com.
