Austin, Texas- Services for Mrs. Floree Asbell Morris, 98, are 12 noon, Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Saint Luke Baptist Church, 1180 Haywood Drive. Macon, Georgia 31211 with interment in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Sandersville, Georgia.
Mrs. Morris was born in Cochran, Bleckley County, Georgia on September 7, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Harrison & Mrs. Julie Mahone. Our beloved, Mrs. Morris departed this life on earth on June 1, 2018 at her daughter's home in Austin, Texas.
Mrs. Morris was married to the late Reverend O. L. Morris from September 4, 1951 until his death on January 13, 2012. During their life together, she served as the First Lady of the churches where he pastored (New Macedonia Baptist Church, Culloden, Georgia; New Smyrna Baptist Church, Fort Valley, Georgia; First Baptist Church, Warner Robins, Georgia; Sandy Ford Baptist Church, Dublin, Georgia; and Shiloh First Baptist Church, Gordon, Georgia) for over 50 years. She retired from Macon Linen Service. Both Reverend and Mrs. Morris were members of the Saint Luke Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia, where they remained members until their deaths. Mrs. Morris was also an active member of Macon No. 5 Prince Hall Order of Eastern Star.
Reverend and Mrs. Morris were blessed to have three children who loved them both very dearly. She is survived by sons, Lonnie Joe (Sylvia Diane) Morris, Macon, Georgia and Carzell (Charlet Lynch) Morris, Miami, Florida; and one daughter, J. LaVerne (Reverend Dr. Joseph C. Parker, Jr. Esq.) Morris-Parker, Austin, Texas. From her previous marriage, Mrs. Morris has one surviving son, Harvey (Claire) Hughes, Sr., Vallejo, California, who will also miss her in spirit, as he suffers with Alzheimer's disease.
Two other children from her previous marriage, James Hughes and Julia Mae Hughes, preceded her in death.
In addition to her children, she leaves to cherish her precious memories several grandchildren; great and great-great grandchildren; and a host of other loving family members and dear friends, including a thoughtful and devoted family friend, Mrs. Jacqueline Pleasants, Austin, Texas. Hicks & Sons Mortuary, Macon, Georgia.
