Janet Brown James
October 26, 1948 - June 4, 2018
Alpharetta, GA- Janet Brown James, 69, passed away peacefully at her Alpharetta home on June 4, 2018. A beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, and teacher, she was perhaps best known for her outgoing nature and enthusiasm for storytelling. Janet was born on October 26, 1948 in Macon, GA to Helen Rogers Brown and Cecil McArthur Brown. She had an active family life, social life, and imagination. It was her exuberance and smile to which her husband, Richard, was first drawn. The two experienced many years of joy together; Janet passed only one day shy of their 48th wedding anniversary. In addition to her strong relationship with her family, Janet devoted her life to children. She earned a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Mercer University, and taught children ages 4-7 for over 30 years, and had an infinite and unwavering love for her two sons, Teddy and John Clark. Even as her health declined in the latter years of her life, Janet remained staunchly committed to her family. She especially enjoyed family trips to Lake Sinclair and long phone conversations with her siblings. Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Cecil Brown. She is survived by her beloved husband, Richard, and sons, Teddy and John Clark James. She is also survived by 3 siblings: Jerry Cecil Brown (Susan), Carole Kimberly Harrison (John), and Robert Lewis Brown (Beth); as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. A memorial service will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son-Oglethorpe Hill Chapel on Monday, June 11 at 3:30pm with the Reverend Liz Pearson officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions are invited to the children's programs at Mount Pisgah Methodist Church.
