Cochran, Georgia- Funeral Services for Jerry Van Dykes, 68, of Cochran, who died Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at Taylor Regional Hospital in Hawkinsville, will be Saturday, August 11, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Peacock and Dr. Norm Yukers and Representative James Bubber Epps officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will meet friends following the service Saturday in the church sanctuary.
Born in Pulaski County, son of the late Everett Dykes, Sr. and Myrtle Hill Dykes, Van attended Cochran High School and was a member of the 1968 graduating class. He was a graduate of Middle Georgia College and Georgia College and State University. Mr. Dykes worked with his family at Everett Dykes Grassing Co., Inc., serving as president after the death of his father. Van was a hard worker and well respected in the highway construction business. He was a long-standing member of the Georgia Highway Contractors Association where he served as past president, and was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Cary. A brother, Everett (Butch) Dykes, Jr. preceded him in death.

Survivors include: his dedicated wife of 49 years, Jan Barber Dykes of Cochran; son, Jeffery Dykes of Jacksonville, Fl.; daughter, Dana Dykes of Cochran; brother, Ricky (Cay) Dykes of Cary; sisters, Kaye (George) Jobin of Danville and Deena (Michael Rogers) Dykes of Allentown; godson, Kyle Quick of Cochran.
Pallbearers are: Chip Mann, Tony Barlow, Zach Rozier, Tommy Fisher, Lamar NeSmith, Woody Butts, Jr. and Trent McDaniel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Van's name to a .
