Perry, Georgia- John Rayburn Pettis, MSgt. USAF (Ret.), 63, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia Navicient Health in Macon, GA. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018 at 12:00 pm at Andersonville National Cemetery with full military honors. The visitation with family and friends will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Covenant Care Adoption Services, 3950 Ridge Ave, Macon, GA 31210.
John (also known to family as Randy) was born on February 15, 1955 in Winter Garden, FL to the late Robert Earl Pettis and Leila Jeanette (Blocker) Pettis of Plant City, FL. He faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force for 21 years as a KC-135 Boom Operator where he retired as a Master Sergeant from Robins Air Force Base. He transitioned to civil service working as an Electronics Technician for the last 22 ½ years. John loved the Lord and served Him faithfully. He was currently an active member at Cross Point Baptist Church in Perry, GA until his health wouldn't allow him to attend. He was a former member and deacon at Sandy Valley Baptist Church in Warner Robins, GA. John truly loved his children but he had an even deeper love for his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Cheryl Ann (Dooley) Pettis of Perry, GA; daughters: Dawn Witherington (Lee) of Warner Robins, GA and Shawna Mills (Daniel) of Jacksonville, FL; son: Brendan Pettis (Caroline) of Warner Robins, GA; 4 grandchildren: Miyah, Stella, Jakeb and Addison; sisters: Gail Gormly (Dan) of Bessemer City, NC, Marie McDonald (David) of Hiram, GA and Michelle Pettis-Brown (Allan) of Plant City, FL.
