Ruth McCaskill McCown
PERRY, GA- Ruth McCaskill McCown, 83, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018, after an extended illness. A private interment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, February 12, 2018, from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary at Perry United Methodist Church with the Memorial Service beginning at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to , 886 Mulberry Street, Macon, GA 31069, or Perry United Methodist Church, 1002 Carroll Street, Perry, GA 31069.
Mrs. McCown was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, to the late Charles and Annie McCaskill. She spent two years in college then married the love of her life, James Foster McCown. They had a remarkable marriage with her as a homemaker working to create a loving and caring environment in which to raise their two daughters, while he worked for Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base. The couple traveled the world, often with his job. For almost two decades, Ruth and Jim danced on a global stage, temporarily calling Italy, Canada, Ireland, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia their home. As her children got older, Ruth took an interest in real estate, becoming a licensed agent working with Richard Goodroe and Watson Richardson. She enjoyed helping young couples to find homes, whether it was their first home or their next home with room for more children. Ruth was a long-time member of Perry United Methodist Church and an original member of the IHS Sunday School Class. She was also a founding member of the Beltista Club, a ladies' service organization in Perry. Ruth loved helping people, and her passion was helping her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Teresa McCown; her beloved husband of 54 years, Jim McCown; and her brother, Charles McCaskill, Jr.
Left to cherish the memories of Ruth are her two daughters, Debbie Pierce (Ed) of Perry, and Deanna "Dee" McCown-Mathison of Overland Park, Kansas; her five grandchildren, Matt Pierce (Britenae) of Seattle, Washington, Ben Pierce (Samantha) of Wichita, Kansas, Amy Pierce (Cody Huke) of Oak Grove, Missouri, Foster Mathison and Meagan Mathison, both of Overland Park, Kansas; her five great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Mildene McCaskill of Randleman, North Carolina.
