James Edward "DoDo" Hollis, Jr.
Milledgeville, Georgia- James Edward "DoDo" Hollis, Jr. age 74 passed away Monday, April 11, 2016. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 15, at the chapel of Moores Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Bradley and Rev. Rick Hollis officiating. Burial will follow at Baldwin Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Dodo was a life-long resident, businessman, brick mason, collector and legend in Milledgeville. He attended University of Georgia but returned to Milledgeville due to the illness of his father. After joining the Marine Corp and with The Women's College turning co-ed, he continued his education as one of the first twelve Georgia College students receiving his BBA and Master's in Business Education. His love of history and preservation of some of Milledgeville's Historic Buildings including his residence the Tomlinson Fort home. Since 1984, he was the owner of the Milledgeville Billiard Parlor at 128 W. Hancock St. He owned the Opera House, a popular entertainment venue, from 1979-2004 and also Northside Package Store. He was preceded in death by his father and mother James Edward and Minnie Lee Edwards Hollis, his brother Richard Gary Hollis and his sister Virginia Ann Hollis.
Survivors include his fiancé Pat Haynes of Chatsworth, nephews Rick Hollis of Pensacola, FL, and Kevin Hollis of Milledgeville.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Moores Funeral Home.
