Frances Causey Spears
December 18, 1930 - February 21, 2021
Atlanta, Georgia -
Frances Causey Spears, age 90, passed away on February 21, 2021. She was born on December 18, 1930. She grew up in Macon, Georgia and graduated from Wesleyan College in 1952 with a degree in psychology. She was the youngest child in the family and had three older brothers who helped take care of her growing up and who she loved dearly.
She was the devoted wife of Dr. Wentford A. Spears, a longtime physician in Warner Robins, GA who helped establish the Houston Medical Center in 1960. While her husband was in medical school, she worked full time at the Medical College of Georgia to help support them. Growing up in the Depression, she handled the hardship and difficult times in her life with a stoic perseverance and had an inner fortitude that was a great source of strength for her family and friends.
Frances was an accomplished artist who enjoyed painting and arranging flowers. She was the consummate hostess who loved to entertain friends and family at their home in Warner Robins, GA. While in Warner Robins, GA she was very active in the community and a number of civic clubs, including the Peach Belt Medical Auxiliary, the Warner Robins Women's Club and the Morning Garden Club.
She was a doting grandmother and aunt as well as a beloved member of the Causey and Spears families. She loved to tell a good story, usually funny, sometimes long, and definitely told from her point of view. She always had a warm and loving smile but was never shy about making a pointed comment or giving someone a good-natured ribbing.
In 2012, she moved to St. Anne's Terrace, a retirement community in Atlanta, GA to be closer to her daughter, Laine Spears Walker. At St. Anne's, she developed a close group of friends who would gather every afternoon for refreshments before going to dinner. The family is very grateful for the love, friendship, and care she received at St. Anne's Terrace.
Frances is survived by her daughter, Laine Spears Walker (Henry) of Atlanta, GA, her granddaughters; Dr. Elizabeth Walker Wadsworth (Andrew) and Margaret Wentford Walker as well as several beloved nieces, nephews and their children. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Wentford A. Spears, her daughter, Elizabeth (Lisa) Tullie Spears and son, Wentford Andrew (Drew) Spears.
A small Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Magnolia Park Cemetery, 205 S. Pleasant Hill Road, Warner Robins, GA 31088. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to
