SIDNEY -- Shanon H. Post, 34, of Sidney died Monday, July 5, 2010, as a result of a dirt bike accident.

He was born Feb. 22, 1976, in Skowhegan, the son of Harland and Lorraine Post. Shanon was educated at Athens Elementary School and Madison High School. In 1997, he joined Kappa Delta Phi fraternity at Thomas College, and earned his bachelor's degree in 1998.

After graduating from Thomas, he started a property management company, Mid Maine Maintenance, supervising up to 150 units. After a rigorous interviewing process, he hired his wife to help him manage the business.

On Sept. 21, 2004, he married the love of his life, Kristin, in a beautiful seaside ceremony in Belfast. Cecil Jones, Shanon's great-uncle, who married his parents almost 30 years prior, presided over the ceremony. The happy couple built their home and settled in Sidney. They became the proud parents of their first son, Ethan, in October 2008; and welcomed their second son, Ashton, into the world in May 2010.

Shanon was passionate about his family and friends and, in addition to being an avid golfer, loved motor sports. At an early age, he spent precious time with his Auntie Lorrie, who devoted her time and love to help support him. He also spent a great deal of his childhood with his paternal grandparents, Robert and Gloria Post, who helped develop his love for anything with an engine that went fast. This love later expanded to include whitewater rafting. As a true sportsman, he enjoyed bragging about taking his test in March, when ice still covered the river. He passed with flying colors, and rafting was added to the list of adventure sports that Shanon had mastered. It was through this outlet that he met Scott Hunt, one of his closest friends, who would later stand beside him as his best man at Shanon and Kristin's wedding. His pastimes also allowed him to spend quality man-time with his "other spouses," Ray Dobbins and Jason Quick. Chris Ireland, longtime devoted friend, also shared his love of dirt bikes and motorcycles, and was counted among his closest friends. Shanon truly cherished all of his friendships, and was always the first to offer the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His compassion and generosity were marks of his true character.

His lovely sister, Tonia, and grandmother, Gloria, predeceased Shanon.

He is survived by his loving parents, beautiful wife and children; his maternal grandmother, Sylvia Curtis, of Harmony; his maternal grandfather, Robert Fish, of New York; and numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.

Public visiting services will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, July 9, at Knowlton Hewins Roberts Funeral Homes, 1 Church St. in Augusta. The service will also be held at Knowlton Hewins Roberts Funeral Home, at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The committal will take place at 1 p.m. at Mount Rest Cemetery in Athens.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the attention of Kristin, Ethan or Ashton Post at Cport, 22 Western Ave., Augusta, ME 04330.

Condolences to the family may be sent to www.khrfuneral homes.com.

I never had the opportunity to meet Shanon, but I've heard a lot about his family. His sister was in the driver ed class that I attended in 1992 at the Skowhegan Driving School, and I had classmates in high school who were friends with him and/or his sister. I would like to offer my condolences to the Post family. No one should have to go through two tragedies in 16 years. Be there for the grandchildren, and tell them everything you know about their father and their aunt!

A former Embden, Maine, resident, and a member of the Class of 1995 at Carrabec High School,

Kristin, I am really sorry to hear of your loss. I had the pleasure to work with Shannon at MBNA. No matter how hard I tried he always could outsell me! I'll never forget the white water rafting trip we went on with a bunch of us from MBNA and him as the guide. It was a great time and he was a fun guide who was concerned for our safety. My heart goes out to you and your two little boys.

You are in our thoughts and memories.
We enjoyed going on a cruise with Shanon and Kristen, it was hard getting Shanon into a suit for formal nite, also when we safely booked our excursions thru the boat, Shanon and Kristen went off on there own, Yes we worried but Shanon came back amusing us with his stories, Ray (our son-n-law)and Devon our daughter brought Shanon into our lifes, Shanon always filled the room with laughter, teasing, planning ventures, being a hard worker , great dad, great husband, great friend. He will sadly be missed. Today after the funeral, all was gathered outside remenessing of the memories when the sky clouded over and it started raining buckets, as we ran to our car in laughter we said YEP Shanon is up to his pranks again as he's watching us.... we love you lots

Kristin,
I am so sorry for the tragic loss of your husband. My heart goes out to you and your boys. Whenever I think of Shannon I remember him as our handyman, helping me fix up my apartment building on Northern Avenue. Also, plowing the parking lot in the winter time. Always greeting me with a big smile. He always spoke highly of you and talked about your home in Sidney and how he was fixing it up for you. I did not know you two finally had children. May God's peace and strength be with you and your darling little one's during this difficult time.

The world has lost one of the nicest people Ive ever met. Shanon was an example of how people should be to one another. I never saw Shanon with anything less than a big smile and a hug ready no matter how much time had passed since Id seen him last. What a loss for his family and young sons. My heart goes out to his wife and entire family for this tremendous loss.. shocking and sad for such a wonderful person that Shanon was. Many thoughts and prayers for you all. Take comfort in knowing Shanon touched many lives in his short years walking this earth...

Big heart, big smile. Kristin, will Christmas Eve ever be the same? A few years ago you and Shanon went out shopping for space heaters after the furnace broke at Eastern Ave. Do you recall how hard it was to find a store selling space heaters on Christmas eve, at 9pm? Way above and beyond, just so the kids could have Christmas at home, not in a motel. I will miss him, my heart goes out to you and the boys.
