My husband Bob and I lived next door to Don and Flo in a garden apt in Metuchen N J from January 1961 - June 1962. When Jennifer was born, I was probably her first babysitter. We were in awe of Don and Flo who were generous with their time and advice to a couple of young newlyweds.

It is with fond memories that I remember Donald Bacon and his wonderful wife Flo. Now reunited.
Gosh, I remember when you moved into the house in Rangitira Avenue behind our property in Ruahine Street, Palmerston North. We used to jump the fence and became good neighbours. I remember the tent and the packing boxes ripped the floor of the tent. Also the times we would go out to Massey in the Holden Station Wagon. Donald would show us where he worked. Oh I remember when Mark was only 3 years old and when Emily was born. Such a lovely time of my life being part of your lives.

My condolences to the family. I (and one other) was in the first class to graduate BSc(Hons) in Genetics from Massey in 1973, and Don as a great mentor to me at the time and since. I remember well the discussions in his office on bacteriophage lambda and on the newly discovered insertion sequences - very inspirational! - Clive Ronson

In the time we knew Don we greatly enjoyed his company as he came with us to church.

My condolences to Don's family and my apology for not attending his funeral. Don was much respected for his contributions to the Massey University science programme on which he left his own mark. I enjoyed having the occasional lunch with Don in his retirement.
