Judith Lewis Obituary

Judith W. Lewis of Manchester, VT died peacefully on May 26, 2018. Judith is survived by her husband D. Brian Lewis also of Manchester, VT. She is survived by her four children, Kevin Lewis and his wife, Mary of Alpharetta, GA, Colleen Lewis and her husband, Scott Murphy of Belmont, MA, Kyle Lewis of Leesburg, VA, Darren Lewis of Manchester, VT and her 7 grandchildren, Claire, Natalie, Carter, Ella, Sam, Camden and KJ. Judith was born on December 30, 1939 in Newark, NJ. She was a brilliant swimmer and she and her best friend, Miriam Donohue, were a force in synchronized swimming competitions. She loved all things musical: Esther Williams' movies and "Singing in the Rain" were among her favorites. A former aspiring ballerina and Rockette, she rarely missed an opportunity to see the New York City Ballet, be they at Lincoln Center or in Saratoga. She also taught ballet classes in Judy Livingston's attic for many local children and adults. She moved to the area in 1979 from New Jersey. The year before the family took a ski trip to Vermont. On a rainy day during that vacation, she and Brian decided to look at houses in Manchester and by the end of the trip the family had purchased a home on Main Street in Manchester Village. Judith loved the mountains and all the beauty Vermont had to offer. She always loved music and decided to go back to college and get the degree she always wanted. Judith graduated from Castleton State College in 1996 with a degree in Music. She was a member of the hand bell choir at the Congregational Church in Manchester for many years. She was the face that greeted many, if not all, of the patients at Dr. Heilemann's dentist office, upon which many friendships grew. A private burial will take place on June 7, 2018. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Second Chance Animal Shelter or The Taconic Music Festival.
