EATON RAPIDS -- John David Bowling of Eaton Rapids passed away Aug. 13, 2018 at the age of 60.

He was born in Traverse City, the son of Jerry and Ruth (Howes) Bowling.

John graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in International Resource Development. He served in the Peace Corps for two years in Niger, Africa. In his younger years, he loved to make wine and collect world art. John was a lifelong scholar and loved to learn. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and traveling around the world.

John worked with the U.S. Forestry Service as a forest technician, Grand Traverse Beaver Island and the Manistee Soil Conversation District where he worked with the youth teaching them how to build bridges and paths. He also worked as a greenskeeper at Arcadia Bluffs and MSU. When John's daughter was born, he stopped traveling to spend time with his beloved Joanna.

 John is survived by his daughter, Joanna Marie Bowling; sisters, Jean (Roger) Muldavin, Betty (Jerry) Hansen, Janice (Robert) Thomas; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Hugh Bowling.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday Aug. 18, at the Marillia Church of the Brethren, 11999 Marillia Rd., Copemish, MI., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the family to help with expenses. Arrangements were entrusted to the Field and Leik Funeral Home in Dimondale.
