Harold Ekstrom

Harold Oliver Ekstrom was born September 20, 1922, in Butterfield, MN. He entered into rest on January 1, 2009, in Mesa, AZ.Harold briefly served our country in the U.S. Army. He married his sweetheart, Leona Haler, on September 23, 1947. Harold farmed in MN until 1963, when he moved his family to AZ. He franchised a 7-11 market, then served as custodian at Connolly Jr. High until he retired in 1984. Harold served his church faithfully as an usher, a 3rd Degree Knight, RCIA sponsor, through prayer and as a member of their rosary group.Harold is survived by his sons Roger (Betty), Tom and Joe (Connie); his daughter Nancy (Mike) Meyer; his brother John; sisters Ruby Shellum and Sally Vatndal; as well as 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.Visitation was Wed, Jan 7, 2009-6:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. and a candlelight service by his brother Knights at Carr-Tenney Mortuary, Tempe. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thurs., Jan 8, 2009-1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Harold was laid to rest at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Phoenix.Donations can be made in Harold’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
