F. William "Bill" O'Neal

BELLVILLE: F. William "Bill" O'Neal passed away at 82 on November 25, 2012, of cancer. He had been ill for several months. He was born January 3, 1930 in Mansfield to Frank W. and Leeta (Charles) O'Neal, Shields. Bill grew up in Bellville, was graduated from Bellville High School with the class of 1948 and attended The Ohio State University in Columbus. Bill and LaDonna (Lehnhart) O'Neal married on September 6, 1949.

While in high school, he learned the printing trade at the Bellville Star. He also enjoyed playing sports: football, basketball and track, and was active in Boy Scouting earning his Eagle Scout Badge.

Lumbermen's Mutual Insurance Co. of Mansfield was Bill's employer for 22 years, where he was the supervisor of the printing department. After taking early retirement, he worked for various print shops in the area combined with farming.

Bill returned to Scouting to become Scout Master, took up bowling, and was active in genealogy and family history. He was a life-member of the Ohio Genealogical Society, served at the Richland County Museum in Lexington, the Bellville-Jefferson Township Historical Society of Bellville, a member of the Bellville Fair Board and member of the AMVETS Post # 43. He was also a devoted card player and avid reader.

Bill is survived by three children: Frank Wm. (Junie) O'Neal of Bellville, Margaret "Peggy" Frye of Columbus, Steve (Martha) O'Neal of Tolleson, AZ; a sister Patricia Carver of Mansfield, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jane Kathleen O'Neal and grandson, Jason O'Neal.

A memorial service will be held Saturday December 1, 2012 at 2 pm, in All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 25 Church Street, Bellville. Contributions in Bill's memory may be made to the Bellville-Jefferson Twp. Fire and Rescue Squad C/O Snyder Funeral Home, P.O. Box 338, Bellville, Ohio 44813.
