Herman L. "Jack" Barnett
MOUNT GILEAD: Herman L. "Jack" Barnett, age 96, of Mount Gilead, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 12, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
On October 28, 1917, Jack was born in Russell County, Virginia, the son of the late William Hammond and Fonnie (Breedlove) Barnett.
A proud World War II Veteran, Jack served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was part of the 158th Infantry (Bushmasters).
On August 27, 1945, Jack married Frances Lucille Randolph in Greenup, Kentucky. They shared almost 69 wonderful years together as husband and wife.
For 22 years, Jack was employed as a press operator for General Motors in Ontario, retiring in 1979. Following his retirement, Jack spent much of his time remodeling old houses.
Jack enjoyed working with his hands and fixing things. He liked working on people's homes and working in the yard. He had a big heart and loved spending time with his family and friends.
Jack will be dearly missed by his wife Frances of Mount Gilead; his son, Richard (Tammy Martin) Barnett of Wildwood, Florida; three daughters: Maxine C. Bunker of Mount Gilead, Francine L. (Ron Daniels) Tendall of Lakeland, Florida, Maydell S. (Robert) Delaney of Mount Gilead; eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Eileen Sheidler of Galion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roger Barnett; and numerous brothers and sisters.
The Barnett family will greet friends from 2 - 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services celebrating his life will be held immediately after at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Verlon Bricker officiating. Burial will follow in Iberia Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in honor of Jack may be made to Hospice of Morrow County, 228 South St., Mount Gilead, OH 43338.
