Thomas D. Stroup
SHELBY: Thomas D. Stroup, age 56, resident of Shelby, died suddenly Sunday, June 23, 2013 in MedCentral/Shelby Hospital from natural causes.
Born June 23, 1957 in Shelby to Norman and Jeanne (Roth) Stroup, he had been a lifelong Shelby resident. A 1976 graduate of Shelby Sr. High School, he had been employed with AMF, RR Donnelley, Ohio Steel Tube and formerly owned and operated Stroup's Lawncare. He currently was employed with Cooper Enterprises Inc. for over 15 years.
Tom was a member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Snap Fitness. An avid Ohio State and Shelby Whippet fan, he enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, boating and going to the lake. He also had his pilot's license and enjoyed flying planes. Tom was a strong-minded, selfless person whose greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Karen (Farnwalt) Stroup, whom he wed September 20, 1985; his children, Cory (Jill) Stroup of Canton, Jenn Mazurek of Columbus and Matt Carr of Shelby; three grandchildren, Triston Carr, Mason Carr and Ava Mazurek; his mother, Jeanne Stroup Kemp of Shelby; his siblings, Becky (Dick) Young, Larry (Toni) Stroup, Jim Stroup, and Jodi Paterson, all of Shelby; step-siblings, Vicki (Dave) Luster of Shelby and Tom (Ann) Roberts of Shelby; his mother-in-law, Chick Farnwalt of Shelby; aunt and uncle, Charles and Janice Boyce of Congers, GA, nieces, nephews, other relatives and his three grandogs, C.J., T.J. and Toby.
He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Stroup, his stepfather, Harry Kemp; father-in-law, George Farnwalt and brother-in-law, Gary Farnwalt.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM Thursday, June 27, 2013 from Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Nicholas Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow in Most Pure Heart of Mary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM where a scripture service will be conducted at 7:45 PM. Memorial expressions may be made to the Most Pure Heart of Mary Church, 29 West St., Shelby, OH 44875.
