Palmer DeLaney Ray
ONTARIO: Palmer DeLaney Ray, 93, of Ontario, died Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Kingston of Ashland. Born December 23, 1919 in Dandridge, Tennessee, he was the son of Mary Jane Ray. A veteran of the United States Army, he served during World War II. He retired from General Motors in 1980 after 25 years of service. He was a charter member of the UAW Local 549 and was a member of the Amvets Post #31 and the Baku Grotto. He was also a member of the Venus Masonic Lodge #151, the Aladdin Shrine of Columbus, the Al Koran Shrine Club of Mansfield, the Aladdin Shrine Club of Galion, Richland County Scottish Rite Club and was a 32nd Degree Mason, Valley of Columbus. An avid golfer until the age of 81, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Palmer was dearly loved by his family and will be sorely missed.
Surviving are a daughter, Dixie (Bill) Selman of Ontario; two grandchildren, Kim Deskins of Columbus and Steve (Cindy) Krock of Ontario; six great grandchildren, Stephanie, Marcos, Jenny, Elza, Ashley and Emma; 11 great great grandchildren, Iris, Stacia, Britney, Areonna, Chloe, Kelsey, Terra, Kee, Accalia, Ella Rae and Randy; a sister, Hazel (Pete) Walker of White Pine, TN; a brother, Joseph (Dolly) Ray of Campbell, OH; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friends and neighbors, Gus and Jeanie Hillman, David Reneau, Anne Melle Hicks, JB, Tim and Robert Etherton, Melanie, Judy Hill and Tom and Rachel Moore. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Bessie Ray on April 23, 2010; two brothers, Paul and Pete Ray; and two sisters, Thelma Jones and Lockie Griffin.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario where Masonic services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the funeral home conducted by Dr. Rich Rader. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Al Koran Shrine Club of Mansfield.
