Frank Beckel Obituary
Franklin Jr. Beckel

MANSFIELD: Franklin Jr. Beckel, 89, of Mansfield, died Friday, March 14, 2014 at his sons home surrounded by his family after a short illness. Born November 28, 1924 in Mansfield, he was the son of Jacob F. and Euginia E. (Marlow) Beckel.

Frank graduated from Mansfield Senior High School and was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He served during World War II in the European Theatre, where he traveled the world on a Freighter. He retired from Fisher Body as a tool and dye maker in 1981 after 30 years of perfect attendance. He loved playing sports, having excelled in track and basketball. You could often find him "running the streets" with his good friend, Dick Poth. Frank also enjoyed woodworking, collecting and using tools, his daily trips to Kelly's Deli in Ashland for lunch and watching birds on the back porch with his late wife, Eleanor. He was a member of the VFW Post 9943, the American Legion and the Amvets. A man of his word, Frank stood behind what he said. Above all, Frank enjoyed his times with Eleanor, and their two granddaughters.

Frank is survived by a son, Arnold (Cindy) Beckel of Bellville; two granddaughters, Melinda (Roger) Foust of Mt. Gilead and Josie Beckel of Bellville; a sister, Ruth Chrysler of Columbus; inlaws, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Herre of Butler; and his beloved pussy cat, Mindy.

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Eleanor Beckel in April 2011; and numerous brothers and sisters.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Sherry of MedCentral Hospice for her wonderful care of Frank during his illness.

Private family graveside services will be held on Monday at Mansfield Memorial Park with Chaplain Bill Leding to officiate. Military honors will be performed by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad.

Memorial contributions may be made to MedCentral Hospice, 335 Glessner Avenue, Mansfield, Ohio 44903.

The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family of Frank Beckel.
