George Henry McDonald, III

KINGSTON, TN: George Henry McDonald, III, age 74, of Kingston, Tennessee passed away Friday, March 14, 2014 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge surrounded by his family. His family was part Delaware and Moravian Indian who migrated here to the United States from Ontario, Canada.

He was born February 3, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan and was the first one of his family to be born in the United States. He lived most of his younger years in Mansfield, joining the United States Army in 1960 where he served his country proudly. He married the love of his life in 1965, working 10 years at Mansfield Rubber & Tire before moving to Tennessee.

George hired on at Union Carbide in 1976 and worked at both the K-25 & Y-12 plants as an Outside Machinist for 29 years. He was a member of the Machinist Local Union No. 480 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He was an avid hunter of arrowheads and loved the outdoors, fishing on the river, working in his workshop but his main pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren who he loved very much.

Preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Elliott; step-father, Harold Elliott; sister, Mary McDonald; brothers, Robert McDonald and William "Bill" McDonald.

Survivors, wife of 49 years, Toby Mabry McDonald of Kingston, TN; daughter and son-in-law Pamela and Darryl Moore of Kingston, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Melissa McDonald of Jonesville, VA; grandchildren, Travis Moore and wife, Christina, Dustin "Clint" Moore and Haylee, Katie McDonald and Keaton McDonald; great-grand-daughter, Caylen Moore; brother Gary "Skip" McDonald and wife, Connie of Mansfield; sister and brother-in-law Jeanette Hollenhead and husband, Sam of Mathis, MS; sisters-in-law Rosie Bender and husband, Darrell of Mansfield, Betty Turner of Lexington, KY, and June McDaniel of Olive Hill, KY; brother-in-law, Gene Mabry of Mansfield; special friend Benny Williams of Solway, TN; a host of extended family and friends

The family will receive friends 12:00 - 2:00 pm, Monday, March 17, 2014 at Fraker Funeral Home in Kingston, Tennessee with Celebration of his life immediately following the visitation with Rev. Keith Knight officiating. Graveside service will follow at Bradbury Cemetery with full military honors being conducted by the Roane County Honor Guard.
