Hobart "Hobe" E. Bowman

MANSFIELD: Hobart "Hobe" E. Bowman, 83, of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 21, 2012 at MedCentral Mansfield. Born January 5, 1929 in Perrysville, he was the son of Winfield Scott and Lulu Gladys (Bemiller) Bowman. Hobe was a decorated Korean War Veteran with the U.S. Army. He had worked at Westinghouse for 12 years and then retired from D.H. Bowman and Sons, INC. after 30 years of service. Hobe was a member of the American Legion and the VFW Mohican Post #9943. He enjoyed traveling and took great pride in his yard and garden, spending just yesterday working in his flower beds. A dependable and loyal family man, Hobe loved spending time his family.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Portia A. (Smith) Bowman of Mansfield; step daughter, Rhonda Butke of Mansfield; step son, Steve Mull of Sunrise, FL; grandchildren, Monika Butke of Parksville, MD and Kristina Butke and Eric Butke, both of Mansfield; brother, Dwight (Marilyn) Bowman of Bellville; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wayne Smith, Lawrence Smith, Wendell and Judy Smith, and Janet and Jerry Shearer. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Thelma Stimmel, Mary Alice VanHouten, and Ruth Cline and brothers, Dean, Jim, and Jake Bowman.

Friends may call Monday, April 23, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Diamond St. Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Military graveside services conducted by the Ashland Color Guard will follow in Ashland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ashland Color Guard VFW Post #1067.
