Dr. James L. Secrest
MANSFIELD: Dr. James L. Secrest, 94, of Mansfield, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Arbors of Mifflin. James was born on December 23, 1922 to the late Lloyd Benton and Miriam (Resch) Secrest.
James was a graduate of Galion High School where he played four different sports. James played football at the University of Rochester and was inducted into the 1st Sports Hall of Fame Class of 1992. James served in the United States Army during World War II. He volunteered as a Physician in the First Mash Unit 8055 to go to Korea. James practiced medicine in Mansfield for thirty seven years. He was a member of PSI Upsilon Fraternity and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Society. James was a loving husband and excellent father and grandfather. He married his wife, Joan on June 13, 1953. James was an avid golfer, and was a member of Westbrook Country Club. James enjoyed sports and traveling and was known for his sense of humor.
James is survived by his wife, Joan (Dugan) Secrest; two sons, Jon Jeff (Susan) Secrest and Thomas (Pamela) Secrest; a daughter, Sara (Douglas) Frye; seven grandchildren, Matthew, James, Jeffrey and Benjamin Secrest, Justin Tapp, Elizabeth and Thomas Frye; and three great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Richard B. Secrest of Rochester, NY.
A memorial service conducted by Rev. Emeritus David Sipes will be held at noon on Sunday, March 12, 2017 with an hour visitation prior to the service at Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield.
