Jay Becker Obituary
Jay Becker

Mansfield - Jay Becker, 84, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. He was born to Richard Becker and Frances (Becker) Metzger on November 10, 1933 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Jay was a 1951 graduate of Leesville High School, and was retired from the United States Postal Service after many years of dedicated service. He served in the United States Navy for four years, Jay was a sailor who worked as a sonar operator on the USS Pinnacle, a minesweeper at the end of the Korean War. He would marry Jean Russ and they would be married 55 years. They had four daughters, Karen, Judy, Kathy and Lori. Jay was a train enthusiast which started when he worked on the Pennsylvania railroad. He was an avid fisherman and loved to go out on the boat with his friend, Bob Weaver. He was a goofball who loved to laugh and make others laugh. A social man, who never met a stranger, he looked forward to his visits to McDonald's and the YMCA to enjoy coffee, bagels and good conversation with his friends. Two of his best talents were writing poetry and woodworking. He attended Linden Road Presbyterian Church and was a current member of Westwood Alliance Church. Jay enjoyed ham radio, and KC8ZU is now silent!

Memories are God's gifts from heaven above. We were blessed to call him brother, husband, Dad, uncle, and Grandpa. He was an amazing person who dedicated his life to his family. Thank you God for giving him to us!

Jay is survived by his daughters, Karen (Bryan) Flowers, Judy (Dave) Hedrick, Kathy Bowen, and Lori (Mark) Furtak; grandchildren, Mark (Beth) Hedrick, Kathleen Flowers, Chad (Forever) Hedrick, Kyle (Maria) Hedrick, Jacob Flowers, Casey (Alex Lowery) Bowen, Emily Bowen, and Erin Furtak; great-grandchildren, Dylan Weekley, Maddie, Corbin, Skyla and Marlowe Hedrick, and two on the way; sister, Susie (Phil) Holmes; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver and friend, Sandy.
