John W. Bennett

MANSFIELD: John W. Bennett, 66, of Mansfield, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 14, 2013 at MedCentral Mansfield. Born July 2, 1947 in Mansfield, he was the son of Kenneth and Evelyn (Potts) Bennett. He was a graduate of Madison High School and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Medic stateside during the Vietnam War. John retired from General Motors after 34 years of service and was a lifetime member of the AMVETS Post #31, and also a member of the American Legion, the Moose Lodge and the U.A.W. He was a Cleveland Indians and Browns fan and enjoyed feeding the deer in his back yard and playing softball in his younger years. He would thank the Lord every day for one more day he was able to spend with his family and friends who will greatly miss him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Larraine (Kegley) Boggs Bennett; a daughter, Laura (Mark) Davis of Mansfield; grandchildren, Jeana (Daniel Martwick) Creel of Texas, Michael (Amber) Davis of Mansfield, Jimmy T. Creel of Texas, Jessica (Brandon) Bullock and Erica Davis both of Columbus; three great grandchildren; an uncle, Loren Buzzard of Mansfield; nieces and nephews, Robby, Jimmy, Mandy, Benny and Shelly; numerous cousins; a sister-in-law, Mary Bennett of Ontario; and his longtime friends at the AMVETS Post #31. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Renee Boggs and her husband, Jimmy Creel; a brother, Robert Bennett; and a sister, Connie Robertson.

Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2013 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario. Memorial services will be held following the visitation at 6:00 p.m. where the Richland County Joint Veterans Detail will present the flag prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America or the Wounded Warrior Fund.
