John H. Pfeil

MANSFIELD: John H. Pfeil, age 97, of Mansfield, passed away Monday morning, July 30, 2012 in Hospice of North Central Ohio in Ashland.

He was born May 25, 1915 in Cleveland, the son of Lawrence and Lena (Buddenburg) Pfeil.

A U.S. Army veteran, John served in World War II in Normandy, Central Europe and Rhineland, and was honorably discharged as Sergeant.

John worked with General Motors in Cleveland, transferring to and retiring from the Ontario stamping plant.

On May 2, 1942 he married Rose J. Kozuh who survives.

He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. John was an avid golfer and bowler, who enjoyed spending time with his family. He proudly delivered meals-on-wheels up to the age of 94.

He is survived by his loving wife Rose; their children Dr. Lawrence (Judi) Pfeil of Winter Haven, FL, Elaine Pfeil of Cleveland, Mary Ellen (Thomas) McGloin of Cleveland, Kathleen (Robert) Grove of Mansfield, Cynthia Timmer of Mansfield; grandchildren Lawrence Pfeil Jr., Linda Millhouse, Amy Studer, Lindsey Grove, Brittany Grove and Trenton Timmer; four great grandchildren; a brother William Pfeil; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by siblings Dalin Cummings, Rita Birth, Nicholas Pfeil, Larry Pfeil and Raymond Pfeil.

The Pfeil family will receive friends Wednesday, August 1, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where a Christian Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805 and may also be made at the funeral home.
