Joycelyn Lou Darling Miller Obituary
Joycelyn Lou Darling Miller

Loudonville - Joycelyn Lou Darling Miller, 81, of Loudonville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior and her beloved husband Tom on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, after a hard fought eight year plus battle with leukemia and dementia. She was born November 27, 1936 near Butler, the youngest of the four children of the late Ira Jay and Pauline (Miller) Darling. Joycelyn lived in Loudonville and was a 1955 graduate of Loudonville High School. Following high school, she worked at The Shelby Wilkins Air Force Depot before working many years for attorney and former Holmes County Judge Francis Smith. Joycelyn retired from Farmers and Savings Bank after 17 years of service.

Joycelyn lived life with a child-like faith in Christ and she faced difficulty with faith, hope and love, especially after the death of her father when she was 13. These qualities gave her the strength to persevere until her last days. She was a beacon of Christ's love throughout her life in her continued examples of love, peace and giving that she modeled for those who knew her. Joycelyn spent many years singing in the choir at her church, Zion Lutheran Church. She loved sharing her voice at local nursing homes, with shut-ins, and was known to sing at weddings as well. Her family awoke each morning to the sounds of her beautiful voice singing a special "concert" for the three of them. What a beautiful way to start the day!

During warm summer days she could be found exploring dusty back roads with her daughters searching for elderberries to make a pie. Her family was her first love and she spent as much time as possible with her daughters teaching them to sew and making matching outfits for herself and the girls to wear for the holidays. She loved baking goodies and she would decorate cut-out cookies in great detail making each one different and special. When her daughters were young, she could often be found tucking them into bed, reading a story and acting out the characters, especially the animal sounds. Her family felt that she was such a blessing as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She provided unending support, encouragement and unconditional love for all.

Joycelyn is survived by and will be missed by her two daughters, Teresa Miller and Lisa (Dennis) Newcomer, all of Loudonville; and her grandchildren, Rachel (Wes) Bieri, of Butler, Jessica (Rob) Wagner, Jonathan (Kayla) DeWitt, Matthew DeWitt and Sarah DeWitt, all of Loudonville, and two great-grandchildren: Thor and Robbie Wagner. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Miller, her parents, two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 9, 2018 at 10:30am in Zion Lutheran Church, with Rev Scott Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Loudonville Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 6-8pm in LINDSEY FUNERAL HOME, LOUDONVILLE. Memorials may be made to the Music Fund of Zion Lutheran Church, 222 East Main Street, Loudonville, OH 44842.
